A toilet flange is one of those parts most people never think about - until something goes wrong. It's the fitting that connects your toilet to the drain pipe in the floor, and when it fails, you start noticing things. Maybe the toilet shifts when you sit on it. Maybe there's a faint smell that won't go away. Or maybe you spot water staining around the base. None of that is normal, and none of it gets better on its own.

That's exactly what we were dealing with on this one. The old flange was shot - corroded, the wax seal completely deteriorated and broken down after years of use. The toilet had been sitting on a bad connection for who knows how long. Left alone, that kind of failure leads to water damage under the floor, subfloor rot, and eventually a much bigger repair bill than a flange swap.

Here's what the process actually looks like. We pulled the toilet, cleared out the old hardware, and cut back the floor tile around the opening to get a clean, solid surface to work with. Then we set a new PVC flange - properly seated and secured so it's not going anywhere. Fresh mortar bed around it, new wax ring, and the toilet goes back down solid and level.

The finished result is a toilet that doesn't move, doesn't leak, and is sealed up the way it should be. That's really the goal with this kind of repair - not flashy, just done right. Our toilet services cover everything from simple repairs to full replacements, and a flange swap is one of the most common fixes we handle for Kansas City homeowners.

If your toilet rocks even slightly, or you've noticed any moisture or discoloration around the base, don't ignore it. That movement is usually a sign the flange or wax seal has given out. The sooner it gets addressed, the less damage you're dealing with down the road.
